My daughter treated me to a new x-box she recieved as part of a new mobile phone contract she,s signed up for. Rigged it up last night and had the machine stood vertical and had an hour on it no problem. went back on after my tea and l tucked the machine away flat on the tv stand fired it up and it made a weird sound then scratched the game disc. Was i just unlucky or is the gamebox designed to play only whilst vertical? (has sticky pads on bottom but maybe for storage purpose only me thinks?)

I've got one from years ago, but it should work either way.....& shouldn't be scratching the disk.

Worth calling the company you got it from.

It should not matter which way up it is as long as you moved it when it was off (when disc ain't spinning) because of the gyroscopic effect of a spinning disc.

You ever held a spinning bike wheel by the spindle and tried to turn it?

I have had mine both ways as well and works fine, A mate of mine had the same problem as you scratching discs it had to go back to Microsoft for a new disc drive as it was fooked. could be and older model machine as they solved the problem for the newer machines.  icon_thumleft
