Hi all,

It's been a little hectic since we got back form the NW200, sorry for the delay in posting any more news..

The following is in Paul's own words and sums up the vent nicely...

hi, well the NW200 didn't go as i planed but was a good meeting.  I was struggling with the speedycom.co.uk Kawasaki ZX10R as it felt really fast and the suspension needed fine tuning. So after the 1st practice, we altered the setting and i then had to wait till thursday to test it again. The bike felt worse in the 2nd session so i got Ian Lougher and Gary Johnson to look at my rear shock and the fork settings. They said the bike was unridable with those settings which baffled me abit as it had been set for me! So after their expert advice, I parked the bike back in the awning again. The next morning when i got my note pad to write down all the new settings again. To my horror and disgust, it had been altered again and not by us...  I wasn't a happy bunny to say the least! So on race day I checked the setting again and off we went racing!

I had gone 10 seconds faster in thge 1st race but had chosen a wet front tyre as it looked like the heavy shower we just had might return, but i didnt and i had to retire. The 600cc was flying and felt really good and had a great race with the irish lads. Before the next race, I decided to alter the gearing on the ZX10R. When trying to undo the front sprocket nut I tweeked a muscle in my arm. It was giving me some serious stick so in the superstock race i couldnt hold on as the bike was geared for over 190 mph! So i had to retire the ZX10R for the day. I sat on the 600cc to see how my arm was and when i looked at the frame i could see water and a big hole in the radiator from the 1st race, so that was it for me from the NW200, so iv been busy getting things sorted and am now ready for theIsle of Man TT.

lets just hope my luck changes....

PS Many thanks to you all for the good wishes and the support. Hopefully we'll see some of you on Island...

in my view he is the best suspension man in the country currently
he has recently developed his own cartridge system and may be up for helping you for the IOM

Hi all,

Many thanks for the tips gents and all the good wishes.

We think we now have the Maxton under control and hope that people leave things alone this time!

If any of you guys are coming over to the Island, drop in and say hello! Paul and Ian will be there for the whole 2 weeks from Sunday 30th.

I'll do my best to keep up with the news and results as it happens..

Cheers

Hi Speedycom

Top respect to Paul Owen for taking over from a Marshall waving a yellow flag  icon_thumright
in SS race 2 while Huchinson alnd many others didn't even roll off the throttle under waved yellow flags dontknow

All those that ignored the waved yellow should have been black flagged and excluded.

Hi All,

Apologies for getting the updates from the IOM on here, the wi fi connection in the paddock wasn't all that great and it was a very difficult time for us.

The following has been written by Paul Owen and is in his on words....

Paul Owen
so were do i start,
this years t.t. has been very different from the last 4 years racing in the isle of man, as iv had 22 starts and 21 finishes in 4 years, but this year just hasnt gone to plan with struggleing at scarborough and nw200, on the 1st nights practice at the isle of man t.t. races i lapped 119.2 and was 5th fastest which is only 6 seconds of my personal best lap time around the 37.78mile track on a 600cc. but that was when things started going wrong, i think i was trying to hard and i just couldnt get to the 120mph lap that i wanted, the 1000cc speedycom kawasaki was having some supsension trouble at speed of around 150mph to 190mph and was trying to buck me of the bike , so after everynights practice i was removing the suspension and giving it to the technitions to improve, but instead of making it softer they were making it harder, it was only after the 4th day that i was told that so we went the total opposite way on the setting and the bike was great apart from an electrical problem that now started which ment the bike couldnt rev over 10.500rpm but when we had it on the rolling road the bike revved to 13000rpm, we did everything possible to get the bike sorted for the superbike race and everything felt fine until i got 12mile around the track and the problem struck again, the same happend in the superstock race aswell, i wasnt a happy bunny.

the 1st 600cc race was mega and id lapped 119.7 and had a really good race on the roads with paul dobbs , john burrows and ben wylie and finished in 20th place and recieved my first trophey of the week, so things were looking up, in the 2nd 600cc race the organisers decided with 30mins before the race to bring it forward by 15minutes so it was panic stations allround and nobody was ready to start, my tyres were still cold and pit crew were in pitlane working there balls off getting fuel into the refill tanks, i left park ferme and it was mayhem on the start line, nobody was ready and i was just hoping my tyre were going to be o.k. so we all lined up and i shouted to paul dobbs infront of me "im only 10 seconds behind you mate" as i had caught him in the 1st 600cc race , he just turned his head and smilled , so i set of the line and had 2 big slides in the first couple of mile but i was gaining time on dobsy and as i approuch ballygairy the waved yellow flags had just come out and i knew something had happend to dobsy,

sadly paul had lost his life in something he loved doing, and as a racer myself i knew he loved every minute of the mountain course,

i was ment to be in the ttx electic bike race later that day and im so sorry for the lads at brunel university who had work the nuts off getting the bike ready for me to race, but it wasnt to be, sorry again lads.

my mechanics had prepared the superbike for the last race of the week and i knew that if i didnt get back on a bike that that would have been the end , so i picked up all my courage and got to the start line, everyone was wishing me all the best and saying they were so proud of what id done for dobsy, and i knew that he'd want me up there thrashing around at high speed in the pursuit off the ultimate pleasure that only us races get. i had a tear in my eye as i set off for the hardest race iv ever had to do and i finished it in 33place and almost lapped 120mph on the speedycom kawasaki.

im sat at home writing this and its been really hard putting my thoughts on here,
i like to thank everyone for all the help and support to the dobbs family, rest in peace mate and say hi to the pearly racers in the sky, your in good company up there mate,

i'll never forget you dobsy, you were my friend and rival, and i know that your only 10 seconds away.

Hopefully all will be somewhat better for the Ulster GP in 6 weeks time...

Cheers all

I also need to say thank you to all of the good luck messages we have had from the forum and from those on the Island. It's much appreciated.

Also have to say a massive thank you to Ian Lougher who lent us an ECU, Nick Morgan at MSS Kawasaki for all his and his teams efforts to the keep the big Ninja going, Ryan Farquhar for parts that he lent us from his own Superstock bike and to all who lent us a hand when the chips were well and truly down.

Well done you guys you truly are real heros . Some of us just dream of racing at the TT.  I t brought a tear to my eye reading Paul's account of the races and the sad death of Paul Dobbs.  Keep on doing what you love and good luck for the Ulster GP

Hi All,

The bike and the team have left for Ulster. Fingers crossed that things go a whole lot better than the NW200 and the TT. The ZX10 has been tested twice at Oulton Park with Paul getting to grips with the power and the handling. He's a very happy bunny!

At the last test day at Oulton Park we were joined by Michelin who have come on board with tyre support for the Ulster GP and next season as well. We are running the  Power One in various compounds to give feedback for the continued development of the range. We'll elt you know how they get on....

I'll do my very best to bring you guys updates on the practice, qualifying and race results as I get them.

All the best to you all and keep an eye on BBC Northern Ireland as I believe they are showing the coverage.

Many thanks

In the 250cc class, Paul has gone 5th fastest so far. Good going Paul.

Following a break down in Superstock practice due to plug cap failure..... Paul went out in Superbike practice and put in a 121 mph lap. 17th overall in Superbike practice on a stocker! Ian reports the bike is flying and sounding on song (after the plug cap problem). According to reports Paul was chasing DOWN Guy Martin....

600cc practice cancelled until tomorrow.

This time puts Paul 13th fastest Superstock. Not bad after first practice, the bike has plenty more to give and Paul is adamant he'll be top 10 in qualifying....

Thanks for all the good luck messages, I've passed them on to the team who thank you very much.

Cheers
